September 10, 2024 06:30 PM
A Journey of Hispanic Flavors from North to South
25 11th Ave, New York, NY 10011, USA
To experience a food tour with Culinary Backstreets is to have access to the hidden gems of a city’s gastronomic landscape. Culinary Backstreets skips the major attractions in favor of the vendors, producers, and artisans who contribute to the authentic soul of their cities. One of the few U.S. locations their guides traverse, the Culinary Backstreets food tour in Queens, New York is a delicious exploration of the innumerable immigrant communities that populate the neighborhoods of Corona, Jackson Heights, and Elmhurst.
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Culinary Backstreets is bringing the diverse flavors of Latin America featured on their Queens tour to Platform. Queens tour leader Esneider Arevalo—a native of Colombia with 25 years of food experience in New York City—will lead an evening of learning and eating that includes a demonstration and tasting of masa products from Doña Joaquina, a vendor specializing in fresh tortillas and tlacoyos. You’ll also hear from Juan Carlos, a Venezuelan member of the Street Vendor Project who will share his story and his arepas. And you’ll have the chance to taste Peruvian chica morada, Argentinian matambre, Ecuadorian chochos, and finish on a sweet note with ube tres leches. Don’t miss the chance to experience a taste of the city’s most delicious borough with Culinary Backstreets
