Join us for an immersive spice journey with Ethan Frisch, co-founder and co-CEO of Burlap & Barrel, a spice company committed to building equitable and transparent supply chains and beloved by chefs and home cooks alike. Sip, smell, taste, and learn with Ethan as he guides attendees through a comprehensive comparison of key spices such as chili, paprika, cardamom, sugar, salt, and pepper—sourced from distinct regions around the world. In addition to learning about flavor profiles, sourcing practices, and sustainability, guests will have the opportunity to taste several dishes from With Love and Masalas, a new recipe book that features Cardoz Legacy Masala spices developed in collaboration with Burlap & Barrel and the late celebrated Indian-American chef Floyd Cardoz and his wife, Barkha—a trained chef and accomplished cook in her own right.
As a special takeaway, each guest will receive a copy of With Love and Masalas, as well as a unique masala blend to bring the flavors of the event into their own kitchens.

Tickets to events held at Platform at Pier 57 by the James Beard Foundation cover the cost of food, education and a unique dining experience. Meals are prepared by culinary masters from all regions of the United States and around the world. Unless otherwise stated, alcoholic beverages are provided on a complimentary basis and are not included in the ticket price.
